composer Jeff Greinke with dancer Joan Laage
"Greinke produces ethereal, even transcendent music that draws the listener into a state not unlike lucid dreaming." THE STRANGER
Jeff Greinke is a musician, composer, performer, sound sculptor, and visual artist who is known worldwide for his unique sound. Jeff performs multilayered electro/acoustic compositions using keyboards, voice, trombone, small percussion, found sounds, and processors. By incorporating live sampling and sequencing, and various processing techniques, he is able to generate multiple soundstreams simultaneously. This enables him to create spatial, textural music full of motion and subtle detail. His approach is organic and intuitive. He plays all of the music live without pre-recorded tape or pre-programmed sequencing lending a dynamic energy to his performance not usually experienced during concerts of "electronic" music. Hence, Jeff's shows are both visually and aurally stimulating.
Jeff has released more than twenty recordings on various U.S. and European
labels. His current ongoing project is a collaboration with former Sky Cries
Mary vocalist Anisa Romero called Hana. In April 2001 they released their second
album entitled Omen. "Greinke continues to prove himself as one of our
finest and most important composers and sound artists. His style has encompassed
ambient industrial soundscapes, fourth world exoticism and ambient washes, and
he displays a magnificent ability to create compelling, sensual, tangible textures,
sonorities, and atmospheres." [AUDION]
Dappin' Butoh's Artistic Director Joan Laage and Jeff first collaborated in
1993, when she asked him to compose music for "The Bride's Tales."
They are currently working on an upcoming May production, "5000 Falling
Souls", for which she received a Seattle Arts Commission Award. "intimate
stage", produced by Dappin' Butoh, was featured in the Seattle P-I's article
